SOMFY joins the Thread Group Board of Directors
SOMFY becomes the first French company to join the Thread industrial group, as sponsor and Board member.
The Thread initiative, launched in July 2014 by seven of the sector’s major players – Yale Security, Silicon Labs, Samsung Electronics, Nest Labs, Freescale® Semiconductor, Big Ass Fans et ARM – now has over 75 member companies. Its goal is to promote and devel-op a technology for connecting different devices in the home.
By using real Internet protocols, Thread brings a whole range of advantages compared to existing wireless standards. Thread is a robust protocol specifically designed for the Inter-net of Things: it is simple to install and adapts to hundreds of devices. Consumers using Thread technology can connect their devices in total security and enjoy easy control, at any time and from any place. By joining the Thread Group, Somfy will be able to contribute actively to the integration of this technology into household appliances, and to thereby speed up the transformation to-ward the connected home. By combining Thread, an Internet connecting technology, and the io-homecontrol protocol, a high-level applicative language for smart appliances, it will be possible to develop more comprehensive connected ecosystems in the home. With over 300,000 devices currently connected, Somfy is thereby continuing the transfor-mation, driven by its Tahoma initiative, toward the connected home. This new generation of solutions is accessible and easy to use: it will help to improve existing homes or to build new homes which are safer, more comfortable and more economical.
