Living Better: imagining better ways of living, accessible to all

At SOMFY, Living Better expresses our conviction: to imagine better ways of living, accessible to as many people as possible.

This ambition places sustainable development at the heart of our strategy, built around three complementary dimensions: environmental, social and societal.

Reducing our impact while helping buildings adapt to climate change. Empowering our employees to grow and develop sustainably. Building responsible, value-creating relationships with our partners and the communities in which we operate.

This is how we aim to combine usefulness and responsibility.

  • ENVIRONMENT – Being useful and responsible in the face of climate change

Climate change is profoundly transforming the way we live. Buildings must now cope with more frequent and intense periods of heat while reducing their energy consumption.

For SOMFY, this transformation comes with a dual responsibility.

Being useful: helping buildings adapt

Motorised and automated solar shading solutions regulate light and heat gains according to outdoor conditions and how buildings are used.

They help preserve occupant comfort and improve building energy performance, in particular by limiting the need for more energy-intensive cooling solutions. As a large proportion of tomorrow’s buildings already exist today, we prioritise solutions that are simple, effective and easy to integrate into the existing building stock.

Our commitments to our clients

Being responsible: reducing the impact of our products

The usefulness of our solutions cannot be separated from their own environmental impact. This is why our 2030 environmental trajectory focuses primarily on our products and their entire life cycle.

Our objectives:

– reduce our direct greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared with 2019
– reduce our indirect emissions intensity per motor sold by 50%
– achieve 100% of products sold being eco-designed

To achieve this, our eco-design approach focuses on four key levers: product electricity consumption, raw materials and the use of recycled materials, repairability and recyclability, and packaging.

Our responsibility also extends to our sites, transport, purchasing and, more broadly, the resources required to operate our business.

Reducing energy consumption, evolving our energy mix, optimising flows, developing circular approaches, and reducing and recovering waste: we are progressively transforming our industrial model to reduce its footprint.

  • SOCIAL – Supporting the people who make SOMFY, for the long term

The transformation of our Group depends first and foremost on the people who make it what it is.

Our responsibility is to provide a working environment in which everyone can find their place, develop their skills and build a sustainable career.

Building long-term employability in a changing world of work

Technological, environmental and industrial transformations are rapidly changing jobs and the skills they require.

We invest in training and professional development to help everyone adapt to these changes and build their career over the long term. SOMFY Campus and our various learning programmes support this ambition.

Fostering a fair and inclusive working environment

We aim to provide our employees with a respectful, fair and inclusive working environment that takes account of individual career paths and differences and creates the conditions for everyone to contribute fully.

Empowering employees to take action

The Group’s transformation also depends on everyone’s ability to understand the challenges we face and take action through their role.

Training, climate awareness programmes, our international network of Sustainable Development representatives and local initiatives are all helping to make sustainable development a shared capability across the Group.

  • SOCIETAL– Growing together with our ecosystem and local communities

Our responsibility does not stop at the company’s doors.

As a family-owned industrial Group operating in 59 countries, SOMFY builds its development on long-term relationships with its customers, suppliers, partners and local communities.

Building responsible relationships with our partners

We promote dialogue and co-creation with our stakeholders to drive collective progress in our practices.

With our suppliers in particular, we build long-term relationships that combine performance, innovation, environmental requirements and responsible practices.

These relationships are also founded on shared ethical principles and respect for our commitments on human rights and environmental responsibility.

Contributing to the communities in which we operate

Our historical roots and international presence give us a particular responsibility towards the communities in which we operate.

Through both the company and the SOMFY Foundation, we support initiatives that enable employees to get involved and contribute in particular to reducing inequalities, improving living conditions and protecting the environment.

These initiatives extend our Living Better ambition beyond our products and our economic activity.

Measuring our progress and reporting transparently

Our commitments only have meaning if their progress is measured over time.

We monitor our progress, evolve our roadmaps and publish the results of our environmental, social and societal actions every year.
